GH Course 2016

A Global Health course was held in 08.08.-26.08.2016 in Tanzania, mainly in Dar es Salaam and it was organized by Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences - MUHAS.

Who can apply?
Eligible Finnish applicants came from medical, dentistry or veterinary background. Students of these fields were able to apply if they have completed minimum of four years of studies before the course. The course was open for professionals in various stages of their careers and thus medical doctors, dentists and veterinarians with extensive experience from their field were also welcomed to apply.

The form was filled in using English. The application form was included the following attachments: a CV (max 3 pages) and a motivation letter (1 page). Only applications with both obligatory attachments were taken into account while selecting the course participants at the end of the registration.

Student selection criteria included (but are not limited to): professional experience of the applicant, activity in relevant NGO’s or associations, international experience, motivation and language skills. The aim was to get a multi-disciplinary group with professionals from different backgrounds and fields. The selection committee received many applications. Thus entry to the course was competitive and a well-written and completed application was an absolute must.

How much does it cost?
The course fee for Finnish participants was 350 euros. Additionally, Finnish participants organized and paied for their own travel to the course location, visa, vaccinations, possible malaria prophylaxis and daily costs at the course location. The course fee covered teaching, study material and accommodation.

Students might be eligible for a scholarship from their professional union or some other organization, but it is the student’s responsibility to find out information regarding to this.
